Occupational Health and Safety Management – Polish Qualifications Framework Level 7

3.  Scope of studies: 

The studies cover issues related to legal aspects of Occupational Health and Safety, investigation of accidents at work, analysis and assessment of occupational risk, methodology of OHS training and ergonomics, work physiology, occupational health and safety management as well as improvement of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.  

4. Target audience: 

The post-graduate studies programme is intended for university graduates (first- and second-cycle degree programmes), in particular staff responsible for issues related to occupational health and safety and ergonomics in the company as well as persons responsible for the implementation and functioning of the Occupational Safety Management System compliant with PN-ISO 45001. 

5. Aim of studies: 

The aim of the studies is to provide knowledge and skills in the field of occupational health and safety, ergonomics as well as occupational health and safety systems under the PN-ISO 45001:2018 standard to the extent necessary to perform the tasks of health and safety services independently, manage activities and projects and implement these issues in the workplace. During the course of studies, students are introduced to the current knowledge on ergonomics, occupational hazard analysis and assessment, occupational health and safety management, and they acquire skills in conducting activities and preparing documentation. The students also gain competence to develop, implement, maintain and improve Occupational Safety Management Systems for business practice. 

6. Learning outcomes: 

After completing post-graduate studies, a graduate is able to:   

  • explain the essence of the work protection system in Poland, list and interpret legal requirements in the field of occupational health and safety, fire safety and ergonomics, with particular emphasis on the protection of the work of women, minors and the disabled, 
  • analyze the causes of accidents at work and occupational diseases according to various classification criteria, using advanced research methods and techniques, conduct accident investigations and prepare appropriate documentation as well as select appropriate preventive measures, following the rules and legally binding conceptual apparatus, 
  • characterize and identify risk factors in the work environment (including ergonomic factors), using different tools and techniques, as well as evaluate the risk with different assessment methods, select effective preventive measures and prepare documentation in accordance with applicable legal and normative requirements, 
  • select appropriate forms, contents, means of communication of training in the field of occupational health and safety, using and improving appropriate methods and tools in adult education, and prepare training documentation in accordance with applicable legal requirements, 
  • plan and implement the process of ergonomic diagnosis at the workplace with the use of appropriately selected methods and tools, specialized equipment and computer applications, as well as design and adapt the workplace in accordance with the requirements of law and applicable standards, in particular taking into account the needs of the elderly and the disabled, 
  • select and design tools and measuring (reactive and proactive) instruments for occupational health and safety assessment, assessment of the compliance of procedures and policies with the organization’s legal and normative requirements as well as use appropriate tools and measuring instruments for economic analysis in the area of occupational health and safety, 
  • plan and carry out control and advisory duties of occupational health and safety services in the organization, using appropriate methods and techniques of work independently and in a team, and plan to develop their own professional career and business activity in the area of occupational health and safety, 
  • plan and arrange the implementation of an OSH management system based on the applicable management standards as well as develop system documentation and use appropriate tools for monitoring and improving the system.
