Project Title: Deep Thermomodernization of the Building of the Faculty of Management and Production Engineering B-17 at the Lodz University of Technology
Priority Axis Number and Title: IV. Low-emission economy
Action Number and Title: IV.2 Thermomodernization of buildings
Contract Number: RPLD.04.02.02-10-0071/17

Project Objectives

The strategic objective of the project is to integrate the region with the European and global socio-economic space as a Central European development center, promoting settlement and economic growth, while striving to build internal cohesion while maintaining the diversity of its place.

This goal will be achieved by reducing the heat demand of building B-17 through the following works: modernization of the heating system, replacement of the hot water and circulation installations, comprehensive modernization of ventilation systems, installation of the Building Management System (BMS), modernization of built-in lighting installations with the replacement of new LED fixtures, installation of a photovoltaic system (PV), and carrying out necessary construction works directly related to the thermomodernization and energy efficiency of the building. The project will also include modernization works essential for ensuring the project’s comprehensiveness, as well as tasks related to project management and promotional-informational activities.

The objectives of the project are in line with the goals of ecological and energy policies pursued at the community, national, regional, and local levels. The implementation of the project will contribute to building a more competitive low-emission economy in the Łódź Voivodeship, which efficiently and sustainably uses resources and reduces pollution emissions. It will also counteract the phenomenon of energy poverty in the region.

Direct Objectives:

Objective Value
Reduction of annual primary energy consumption 5,336,100 kWh/year
Amount of thermal energy saved 1,833 GJ/year
Reduction in final energy consumption resulting from implementation 2,223.495 GJ/year
Estimated annual decrease in greenhouse gas emissions 894.598 tons CO2 equivalent/year
Reduction of operational costs for public utility buildings (heating and hot water preparation costs) 123,689 PLN/year
Improvement of energy efficiency in buildings The thermomodernization works will reduce the final energy demand for the subject buildings.
Increase in the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the overall energy balance of the Municipality A photovoltaic system will be installed on the southern facade of building B-17.

Intermediate Objectives:

Objective Value
Improvement of air quality in the city As a result of the thermomodernization works, harmful substances emitted into the atmosphere will decrease, contributing to better air quality.
Improvement of health conditions and comfort for people in the building Reducing harmful emissions will indirectly contribute to better health for residents. Appropriate thermomodernization actions will also maintain comfortable and hygienic conditions inside the building.
Maintenance of temperature and humidity in all rooms of the building to enable effective operation of the facility throughout the year Proper humidity and temperature conditions in the building will increase the efficiency and productivity of users without negatively affecting their well-being.

The objectives outlined above are reflected in the structure of the tasks planned within the project, which are as follows:

  1. Task – Modernization of the heating system.
  2. Task – Replacement of hot water and circulation installations.
  3. Task – Comprehensive modernization of ventilation systems – both general ventilation and fire protection (p.poż).
  4. Task – Installation of the Building Management System (BMS) for the control and optimization of the building's energy systems.
  5. Task – Modernization of the built-in basic lighting installation by replacing it with new fixtures equipped with LED lamps, along with lighting control via the BMS system.
  6. Task – Installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system with a capacity of 25.4 kWp mounted on the southern wall of the building.
  7. Task – Execution of necessary construction works related to the planned works, including wall penetrations, grooves, wall demolitions to gain access to modernized installations, reconstruction works, plastering, and painting of walls.

Total project value: 9,078,422.44 PLN
